Intel Offers Core i3 Users Processors Upgrades Via Software


Intel has unveiled a new upgrade path available to Core i3 processor owners that will shortly allow them to upgrade their processor by unlocking it, via a software update from Intel, and providing you with that all important extra processing power.
Intel has already trialled the new upgrades and will be charging users to be able to use the new software upgrade which is capable of adding an extra 10 to 23 percent to your processor says Intel.

When Intel first introduced its plans to introduce the upgrades, consumers were not happy at the prospect of having to pay again to unleash new power on a processor they had already purchased. So it will be interesting to see how consumer perceptions have changed when Intel launches their latest upgrades.
Depending on the processor in your system the new upgrades will provide a range of new enhancements improving either the clock speed and cache memory or both. Intel has yet to releaseprices for the new upgrades but as soon as any more information is released we will, as always keep you up to date.

KinectFusion Project Models 3D Environments In Real-Time (video)


During the SIGGRAPH 2011 conference this week researchers have demonstrated how a MicrosoftKinect motion controller device can be used to map and create 3D models of environments. The project is called KinectFusion and using a Kinect device the research team can quickly and easily render a 3D model of an entire room in real-time.
Watch the video after the jump to see the KinectFusion project in action. The video also hints at possible applications for the KinectFusion technology within gaming and architecture, when virtual paintballs are fired in augmented reality.

Mozilla Launches Firefox 6 and Thunderbird 6


As expected Mozilla has now rolled out its new browser Firefox 6 and alongside it, their new Thunderbird 6 email client. Firefox 6 is Mozilla’s second release under its new quarterly development cycle and new updates have been made to the “awesome bar” and Firefox address bar making it easy to identify which pages you are viewing.

MSI has this week added a couple of new notebooks to its range in the form of the MSI X460 and X460DX. That have been designed with mobile professionals in mind, with its thin and light design. Combining both sleek brushed metallic finishes together with performance from Intel’s latest Core processors.
The high specification MSI X460 model comes complete with a Intel Core i7-2630QM processor, supported by 6GB of DDR 3 RAM and graphics supplied by the integrated Intel HD 3000 GPU. The  slightly less powerful X460DX base model is equipped with a 2.1GHz Intel Core i3-2310M processor with 4GB of DDR3 RAM. But can be upgraded with optional processor upgrades if required.
