Intel has unveiled a new upgrade path available to Core i3 processor owners that will shortly allow them to upgrade their processor by unlocking it, via a software update from Intel, and providing you with that all important extra processing power.

Intel has already trialled the new upgrades and will be charging users to be able to use the new software upgrade which is capable of adding an extra 10 to 23 percent to your processor says Intel.

When Intel first introduced its plans to introduce the upgrades, consumers were not happy at the prospect of having to pay again to unleash new power on a processor they had already purchased. So it will be interesting to see how consumer perceptions have changed when Intel launches their latest upgrades.

Depending on the processor in your system the new upgrades will provide a range of new enhancements improving either the clock speed and cache memory or both. Intel has yet to releaseprices for the new upgrades but as soon as any more information is released we will, as always keep you up to date.

During the SIGGRAPH 2011 conference this week researchers have demonstrated how a MicrosoftKinect motion controller device can be used to map and create 3D models of environments. The project is called KinectFusion and using a Kinect device the research team can quickly and easily render a 3D model of an entire room in real-time.

“As the space is explored, new views of the scene and objects are revealed and these are fused into a single 3D model. The system continually tracks the 6DOF pose of the camera” – “As the camera moves through the scene, new depth data can be added or removed from this volumetric representation, continually refining the 3D model acquired.”

Logitech has this week unveiled a new addition to its range with the launch of its Tablet Speaker. Created to provide you with a portable battery powered speaker system for those time when you need a little more volume from your tablet, while watching films or listening to music.

The new tablet speaker has been designed to clip over the edge of your tablet and raises the tablet into a convenient typing angle. Rather than using a Bluetooth connection which would reduce the speaker and your tablets battery life, Logitech have opted for a wired connection using a 3.5mm headphone connector that simply plugs in to your tablet headphone socket.

The Logitech Bluetooth tablet speaker is capable of providing up to 8 hours of playback on a single charge and can be re-charged when necessary via a USB connection.

The Logitech Tablet speaker is now available to pre-order (shipping in September) and comes complete with its own carrying case for €40 or $58

As expected Mozilla has now rolled out its new browser Firefox 6 and alongside it, their new Thunderbird 6 email client. Firefox 6 is Mozilla’s second release under its new quarterly development cycle and new updates have been made to the “awesome bar” and Firefox address bar making it easy to identify which pages you are viewing.

But a majority of updates within the new Firefox 6 will useful for developers.With the addition of a new text editor called Scratchpad that lets developers enter, execute, test, and tweak JavaScript code, offering developers an alternative to the Firefox’s Web Console or the Firebug command line.

The new Thunderbird 6 release is now based on the Gecko 6 engine which is a free and open sourcelayout engine used in many applications developed by Mozilla. Gecko 6 offers a very rich programming API infrastructure and can be used for a variety of roles within Internet applications.

New features within the Thunderbird 6 release include improved themeing, jumplist support in Windows 7 and greatly improved import features for users when they are trying to transferring data and e-mails from Microsoft’s Outlook application.

Together with numerous speed and stability improvements. The latest Firefox 6 browser release is now available to download from the from the Mozilla website.

MSI has this week added a couple of new notebooks to its range in the form of the MSI X460 and X460DX. That have been designed with mobile professionals in mind, with its thin and light design. Combining both sleek brushed metallic finishes together with performance from Intel’s latest Core processors.

The high specification MSI X460 model comes complete with a Intel Core i7-2630QM processor, supported by 6GB of DDR 3 RAM and graphics supplied by the integrated Intel HD 3000 GPU. The  slightly less powerful X460DX base model is equipped with a 2.1GHz Intel Core i3-2310M processor with 4GB of DDR3 RAM. But can be upgraded with optional processor upgrades if required.

Both systems run 64-bit versions of Windows 7 professional and are equipped with a 1366 x 768 glossy LCD, HM65 chipset, WiDi 2.0 support, Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless, 2 x USB 3.0 ports and 1 x USB 2.0 port, and a 1.3MP webcam.
